Jacksonville, Florida-Playing their first home game in 42 calendar days, the Edward Waters women’s basketball squad rolled their season best third consecutive victory, 77-58 over Allen University on Saturday afternoon at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.
The win for Edward Waters (5-4, 1-1 GCAC) pushed their record over the .500 mark for the first time this season as well.
It was a wire-to-wire victory for the Lady Tigers as the never trailed or tied the visiting Lady Yellow Jackets (1-1, 0-0 SIAC) in the contest. EWC led by as much as 24 points thanks in large part to forcing 28 Allen turnovers that led to 33 Lady Tiger points.
Edward Waters shot 45% from the floor on 30-of-66 shooting, while holding the newly minted NCAA Division II members in Allen to 39% shooting from the floor. The Purple & Orange also saw a 46-32 edge in rebounding, including an 18-10 offensive rebounding advantage.
The Lady Tigers put three players in double figures in the contest, led by senior guard/forward La’Quanza Glover who for the second time in four days, turned in her finest scoring performance in her collegiate career. Glover notched a new career high with 31 points on 12-of-19 shooting, with 15 rebounds, and eight assists. It was also her sixth double-double performance of the season and her fourth straight double-double game. Junior guard Sha’Kawanza Brown came within four points of also setting a new career high as she had 23 points, three rebounds, five assists, and seven steals. Junior guard Teiyahna Hutchinson posted her season best with 13 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Allen had two in double figures on the evening, led by Jayda with 16 points and five rebounds, while Kyla Reid finished with 12 points and four boards for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Edward Waters will wrap up their quick two game homestand on Monday, January 25th in a rescheduled GCAC contest against Tougaloo. Tipoff is set for 5:00pm at the Adams-Jenkins Complex. Fans will not be allowed in the contest due to GCAC policy, but the game will be live streamed on the EWC Athletics YouTube page.
