Men’s Basketball Stung By Allen In Home Loss



Jacksonville, Florida-An uncharacteristically slow start for Edward Waters ultimately resulted in a tough night, as the Tigers suffered their first loss at home this season, 86-76 to Allen on Saturday evening at the Adams-Jenkins Community Sports & Music Complex.

The defeat for Edward Waters (7-5, 1-2 GCAC) also snapped a two-game winning streak that the Tigers carried into the contest.

Allen (1-0) came out of the gates strong, going on an 11-0 run over the first three minutes of the contest before the Tigers were able to crack the scoreboard. EWC were fighting from behind for the entire contest as the Purple & Orange never led in the game and fell behind by as much as 22 points in the first half.

The Yellow Jackets took advantages in every significant statstical mark in the contest, outshooting Edward Waters 45% to 40%, taking a 39% to 31% edge in three point shooting, and outrebounding the Tigers 40-35.

Edward Waters had four players in double figures on the night, led by senior forward Knowledge Darby with 18 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Robert Thomas, III posted his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 assists. Junior forward Khalil Brown had 14 points and six rebounds, and freshman guard Bryson Wooten, who got his first start in his collegiate career had a season best 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Allen slso had four players post double figure marks, led by Maleek Taylor with a game high 26 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Cameron Sembly and Marcus Cohen each had 14 points, while Eddie Clary finished with a double-double (11 points & 10 rebounds).

The Tigers will look to regroup on Monday evening, January 25th as they host Voorhees at 7:00pm at the Adams-Jenkins Complex. Fans will not be allowed in the building due to GCAC COVID-19 policy, but the game will be live streamed on the EWC Athletic YouTube page.
