MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Three months after finishing up an unprecedented spring season, the Alabama State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics released the 2021 fall soccer schedule featuring seven home matches and a pair of matches against in-state competition.

Alabama State claimed, both, the regular season, and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships last season along with the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The title was the third in five seasons for the Lady Hornets and head coach Jodie Smith, and they look to become the first team to repeat as conference champions since the last time they accomplished the feat back in 2016 and 2017.

The Lady Hornets (9-3-1, 6-0-1 SWAC in the spring) open the season with an exhibition against Troy at the ASU Soccer Complex on August 13 with kick set for 6 pm. The two met during the spring with the Trojans claiming a 3-1 victory over Alabama State, and the Lady Hornets are looking for their first win in the series that dates back to 2005.

They open the regular season on the road with back-to-back games in South Carolina beginning with Winthrop on August 20 in the first meeting between the two, before facing Presbyterian on August 22. The match with Presbyterian will be the first meeting between the two since the 2018 meeting, a match won by Presbyterian 3-1 in Clinton (SC), and it will be the fifth meeting between the two all-time.

The Lady Hornets will play their first of six regular season home matches at the ASU Soccer Complex on August 27, welcoming in Jacksonville State with a 6 pm kick. The two last met in 2019, a 3-2 victory by Jacksonville State and will meet for the fourth time in Montgomery. Following the match against the Gamecocks, Alabama State hits the road for a pair of matches against Stetson (August 29) and South Carolina State (September 3). The meeting with Stetson will be the first in school history, while the Lady Hornets and South Carolina State have met seven times prior to this season and Alabama State has won the last two.

Alabama State closes out the non-conference portion of the schedule with a home match against Gardner-Webb (September 5), before a pair of road matches against in-state competition. The Lady Hornets travel to Birmingham to face UAB (September 10) in search of their first win in the series in their third opportunity, and travel across town to face Faulkner (September 12) looking for their fourth win in five tries against the Eagles and third consecutive victory. They close out the non-conference schedule with a home match against Lipscomb (September 17) at the ASU Soccer Complex.

They begin defense of their conference crown on the road against Alcorn State (September 24) and Mississippi Valley State (September 26), before returning home for a pair of matches against Texas Southern (October 1) and Prairie View A&M (October 3). Following a pair of road matches against Grambling State (October 15) – with whom they tied in the spring – and UAPB (October 17), the Lady Hornets close out the home portion of the schedule against Jackson State (October 22) and Southern (October 24).

The regular season closes on the road against Alabama A&M (October 29) before the conference tournament begins on November 4.

Admission is free to all Alabama State home soccer matches, with the Alabama State campus remaining mask-mandatory moving into the fall season. All spectators are asked to enter the complex on the west side of the field (Abernathy Hall).
