Division 1 Men’s National Player of the Week – DeJaun Clayton Guard Coppin State
Coppin State’s DeJuan Clayton: A redshirt senior from Bowie, Md., Clayton averaged 21.0 points, 7.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field and 18-of-19 from the free throw line as the Eagles swept a weekend series with Norfolk State.
Division 1 Women’s National Player of the Week – Alabama State’s Shmya Ward
Ward (Memphis, Tenn.) averaged 19.5 points and 12 rebounds per game in a pair of contests this week for Alabama State, who finished 1-1 on the week. The junior scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds against Southern and recorded her third double-double of the season with 19 points and 15 rebounds against Alcorn State. She also finished the week with five blocked shots, including four against Southern on Monday night. Ward finished the week shooting 63.6 (14-for-22) percent from the floor in the two games.
Small School Men’s National Player of the Week – Rayshawn Mart/Xavier (NO)
Xavier’s Rayshawn Mart a 6 – foot – 3 senior guard from Houma, Louisiana won the GCAC Player of the week for the third time this season. In the 88-41 lopsided victory over Carver Bible, Mart scored 22 of his 29 points (.759) in the first half alone and went 13-of-24 (.542) shooting on the evening.
Small School Women’s National Player of the Week – La’Quanza Glover/Edward Waters
La’Quanza Glover topped 20 points and 11 rebounds in each of the Lady Tigers’ three victories last week. The hometown senior averaged an absurd 26.7 points, 15.3 boards, four assists and 2.7 steals to go along with a stellar .593 field goal percentage (32-for-54) with a double-double in each contest.
