Daytona Beach, Fla. — Eleven regular-season home games, a non-conference slate featuring games at USF, Utah, NC State, and Seton Hall, plus a neutral-site tournament in Daytona Beach highlight the 2021-22 Bethune-Cookman University men’s basketball schedule, which was released Wednesday.

Former NBA All-Star Reggie Theus, hired as Wildcats Head Basketball Coach and Athletic Director in July, will begin his first season at the helm.

“This season will be a great challenge for our young team,” Theus said. “We’ve got a great non-conference schedule against teams like UCF and Seton Hall that I think will prepare us well for conference play. I think the SWAC is one of the better conferences in the country. It is going to be very competitive and there is going to be some great parody. We look forward to the challenge.”

The Wildcats begin the season on the road at USF in Tampa on Tuesday, Nov. 9. This is the first time the two interstate teams have met since 2017. Bethune-Cookman will then travel to Murfreesboro to take on Middle Tennessee State. On Nov. 12.

The Wildcats will travel to Salt Lake City on Nov. 15 for a regional matchup with Utah to begin the 2021 Sunshine Slam. The tournament will then move to a neutral site at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, where Bethune-Cookman will face the Bryant Bulldogs (Nov. 20). The winner of that game will advance to play the winner of Air Force and Holy Cross on Nov. 21.

Bethune-Cookman stay at the Ocean Center for one more game to take on 2021 tournament team, Liberty (Nov. 23), before hitting the road to face Seton Hall (Nov. 28), UCF (Dec. 5), and NC State (Dec. 9) before the first home contest of the season on Dec. 15. The Wildcats will open at Moore Gymnasium against Johnson University of the NAIA, whom B-CU has defeated in all six previous matchups.

The Wildcats will take to the road for two more games at FIU (Dec 19) and Marist (Dec. 22) before returning home on Dec. 29, when FNU will visit Moore Gymnasium to kick off the Wildcats’ longest homestand of the season. Next, Bethune-Cookman will open SWAC Conference play against Florida A&M University (Jan. 3), followed by visits from Grambling State (Jan. 8) and Southern University (Jan. 10).

Bethune-Cookman will play 19 conference games this season, nine at home and ten on the road. Conference play for the Wildcats will consist of four homestands and four road trips. The Wildcats open their conference road slate with a trip to Mississippi Valley State (Jan. 15) and Arkansas Pine-Bluff (Jan. 17).

The 2020-21 regular season co-wins leader, Prairie View A&M will visit Bethune-Cookman on Feb. 5, followed by the victors of last season’s SWAC Championship, Texas Southern (Feb. 7).

Jackson State and Alcorn State will travel to Moore Gymnasium on Jan. 22 and 24. Bethune-Cookman will return the favor with a two-game trip to Mississippi for rematches against the two teams on Feb. 12 and 14. Similarly, The Wildcats will travel to Alabama to face Alabama State and Alabama A&M on Jan. 29 and 31. Bethune-Cookman will face those two teams again to close out its home schedule on Feb. 19 and 21.

The team will round out the season with two road contests at Grambling State (Feb. 28) and Florida A&M (Mar. 5).
