DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – In addition to the Southwestern Athletic Conference, the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats will see their share of the SEC and ACC during the 2021-22 season.
Road contests at Miami (Nov. 12), Mississippi State (Nov .22) and Alabama (Nov. 28) highlight the non-conference portion of the season before the Lady Wildcats settle into league Jan. 3 against long-time rival Florida A&M. Wildcats’ first-year head coach Janell Crayton welcomes the challenge of the season ahead.
“I believe we have set ourselves up to be tested early and also prepare us for conference play in the SWAC,” Crayton said. “Our team will have an opportunity to play against some of the best talent in the country and we welcome the challenge. We are working hard each day to be ready for the season and can’t wait to have the program’s first game since March 11,2020.”
A key date for the Lady Wildcats in league play Jan. 22 when they host Jackson State, the defending SWAC championship who faced Baylor in last season’s NCAA tournament. B-CU travels to Jackson, Miss., on Feb 14 as part of its 16-game conference schedule.
“The SWAC is truly one the country’s premier mid-major conferences and we are excited to be joining such a prestigious group of institutions,” Crayton said. “We have a completely new footprint and can’t wait to show news fans and teams what Bethune-Cookman women’s basketball is all about. We truly look forward to competing against great teams in high energy environments. The SWAC is the best of what college athletics has to offer and we are ready to be a part of the conference.”
The season starts for B-CU at home against Edward Waters Nov. 10. Other non-conference home games include Warner Dec. 6 and FIU Dec. 14.
