MONTGOMERY, Alabama – Bluefield State defeated No. 5 seed Florida Memorial, 10-3, in the third round of the Black College World Series.
The Big Blue scored three runs in the third inning on JR McRee‘s RBI triple, Ty Sizemore singled out to right field to bring in McRee, and Roman Moore doubled to left field bring in Sizemore for the third run.
Despite the Lions tying the game up in the fifth. The Big Blue regained the lead in the sixth when Shane Reviello hauled one up the middle with a two RBI double, 7-3.
Kenrick Mendez pitched four innings, grabbing the win on the mound for the Big Blue, with five strikes outs. Mendez only gave up three hits, no runs, and zero errors.
It was a big win for the West Virginians. Their record is now 14-11 for the season.
This first-ever Black College World Series is being played in Montgomery, AL, at Riverwalk Stadium, home of the Montgomery Biscuits, Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Big Blue, 3-0 in the Series, advance to play the winner of Florida Memorial and Xavier University of Louisiana Saturday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m.
