BLUEFIELD – As part of the 12-sport expansion, It’s with great pleasure that Bluefield State College can formally announce the women’s soccer schedule for Fall 2021. The program includes 3 exhibitions and 17 competitive Varsity games for the first time in the school’s history. “It’s wonderful to see the efforts of this new program coming together to create a challenging and exciting competitive soccer schedule for Fall,” Said Derrick Price, Bluefield State’s Athletic Director.
The program opens with the inaugural “Battle of Bluefield’s” against local NAIA side Bluefield College. Other exhibitions include a home game against Concord and an away game against Emory & Henry.
Competitive NCAA DII play starts with a run of five challenging road games against the Mountain East’s West Virginia State & Alderson Broaddus, the 2019 NCAA second-round participants, and SAC quarter finalist’s Lincoln Memorial, as well as visits to four Conference Carolinas teams in Converse College, Erskine, North Grenville and 2019 Season Champions & NCAA tournament participants the University of Mount Olive.
“This opening run of away games will be a tough baptism for the program against some serious NCAA DII opponents, but Bluefield State is committed to challenging themselves against the best and showing what we can achieve.” Said Coach Forster, Head Soccer Coach.
The second half of the season features some potentially exciting matchups as both West Virginia State and Emory & Henry make the return visit to East River. It is also great to include fellow HBCU’s across the schedule with BSC playing WVSU, Shaw, and Edward Water University. Homecoming weekend sees Salem University visit the Hill with the regular season closes with the return visit. “We can’t wait to get to season kick-off” added Forster.
The highlight of the schedule is the news that BSC will be hosting the Independent Championship Tournament at home in early November as part of an NCAA-approved post-season.
