ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Coppin State’s men’s tennis team went on the road and defeated Lafayette College, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at Winning Touch Tennis to even its record at 1-1 on the season. The Leopards fall to 0-1 overall.
The Eagles earned the doubles point with victories in the first and third flights. Sergiu Medesan paired with Vansh Kapoor to defeat Lafayette’s Barry/Yurconic, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles. Henrique Sada and Michael Michael combined to beat Coleman/Esslinger, 6-2 in the third spot.
In singles play, Medesan, Michael and Kapoor all earned wins to seal the victory for the Eagles. Medesan picked up a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win in the spot while Michael was also victorious in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Kapoor dominated the first set, 6-1 but dropped the second before winning third, 10-3 to pick up the win in the fourth position.
Dean Waterman won five games and Christopher Green won seven in their defeats in the third and sixth singles flights, respectively. Sada also took the loss at No. 5 singles.
The Eagles’ match on Sunday, February 21 against La Salle has been canceled. Coppin returns to the court on March 16 against Loyola University Maryland.
