New Orleans – The Dillard volleyball team (12-3, 4-0 GCAC) won a conference award for the third straight week as Kennede Jones (JR/Dallas, Texas) was named the Attacker of the Week, the league office announced, on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
The volleyball team went 1-1 on the week, but were able to successfully extend their winning streak to 11 straight matches with a victory over Mississippi University for Women before falling to Loyola University New Orleans. The 11-match winning streak is the second time in as many season that the program has put together a streak of 10 or more matches. The program went 49 days between losses this season.
Junior Kennede Jones won the GCAC Attacker of the Week Award after picking up a team-high 12 kills in the two matches that Dillard played last week. Jones totaled six kills and no errors plus hit. 500 in the victory over Mississippi University for Women (10/08). She also had two service aces, three digs and a block assist against the Owls. The loss to Loyola University New Orleans (10/09), Jones led the charge with six kills while hitting .385 with only one error in 13 swings. She also had a pair of service aces, a dig and a block assist. Jones is the third Dillard player to be named the GCAC Attacker of the Week following Desire Neal (SR/Sacramento, California) (9/28) and Demari Drake (FR/Allen, Texas) (10/5).

As the winner on the conference level, she will now advance to see about gaining NAIA national recognition.
Dillard’s volleyball team will next be in action on Oct. 19 when the program plays its final road regular season match against the University of Mobile at 7 p.m. The program then returns home to host GCAC Roundups on Oct. 23 and Oct. 30. The program starts play off against Philander Smith on Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. at Dent Hall. The team hosts Rust College later that afternoon at 5 p.m. The other matches that weekend include Tougaloo College vs. Rust College at 1 p.m. and Tougaloo vs. Philander Smith at 3 p.m.
