EWC Women’s Track & Field Projected To Win GCAC Championship In Preseason Poll

By GCAC Sports Information Director

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Lady Tigers of Edward Waters women’s outdoor track & field team was picked to win the conference title after a runner-up performance in the spring of 2019. The preseason poll was voted on by the six head coaches and announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.

There was not a GCAC Championship event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and most of the teams in the conference participated in one meet or were unable to compete at all.

Xavier and Edward Waters both received three first-place votes but Edward Waters received more overall points to earn the distinction as preseason favorite.

Xavier, who had won the previous three championships before the hiatus last season, was chosen to finish in second place behind EWC while Dillard, Philander Smith, Talladega and Rust took the third through sixth slots, respectively.
