AUSTIN, TX – The first home game of the 2021 campaign was a big one for the Huston-Tillotson University Men’s Soccer team as they defeated Wayland Baptist University by a score of 1-0.

In what was a defensive showdown, the Mighty Rams were able to ward off the Pioneers despite being outshot by Wayland by double, 14 shots to 7 shots. HT goalkeeper Matthew Kingwell posted four saves.

The lone goal of the game came about midway through the first half when Juan Belman took a pass from Justin Mac Reyes (SR/San Antonio, TX) and was able to put it in the goal to take a 1-0 lead. HT never looked back as they were able to hold off several close attacks by Wayland to earn the victory.

“I’m proud of the way our guys stepped up and battled to the very end against a solid opponent in Wayland Baptist.” said Head Coach Josh Reyes.

The Mighty Rams will be back in action on September 18, 2021, as they travel to Abilene, Texas to battle McMurry University. Game time is slated for 11:00 a.m. at Wilford Moore Stadium I Abilene, Texas.
