FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The 14th-ranked Benedict College Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak and four-game road losing streak with a 68-55 victory over Fort Valley State in a SIAC men’s basketball contest on Saturday.
Marshaun West, in his first game back in action since Jan. 20, scored a game-high 21 points, connecting on eight-of-11 field goals. Malachi McCoy had a double-double with 14 points and grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds. Tim Moore added 13 points.
The Tigers improve to 18-4 overall and 12-4 in the SIAC. The Wildcats fall to 4-19 overall and 4-12 in the SIAC.
Benedict scored the final 10 points of the first half to break away from a tie game to take a 34-24 lead at the break. The Wildcats rallied to tie the game at 36-36 early in the second half before the Tigers scored the next 11 points. Fort Valley was able to cut the lead to 52-44 with 6:46 left to play, but the Tigers scored the next six points and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
The Tigers travel to take on Albany State on Monday night.
