DURHAM, N.C. — The North Carolina Central University women’s tennis team captured victories in each of the singles and doubles matches contested, while surrendering two team points due to injuries, as the Eagles earned a 5-2 win over Shaw University on Friday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
The Eagles secured the doubles point by winning both matches contested. On court one, the freshman tandem of Josefa Fernandez and Jade Houston picked up a 6-3 win over the Shaw sophomore team of Michelle Blaha and Chetna Kumari. The next court over, junior Ivana Dragovic and freshman Maria Picazo clinched doubles with a 6-2 victory over junior Kundai Manyonga and sophomore Nika Tadic.
Fernandez and Houston have won two straight doubles matches and three total on the season. Dragovic and Picazo were triumphant in what was their first match as doubles partners.

Picazo only needed one more game to seal the team victory for the Eagles by posting a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kumari on court four.
Fernandez concluded the afternoon action by grinding out a 7-5, 6-1 triumph over Blaha at the No. 1 singles position.
