NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana was No. 5 in the NAIA men’s tennis preseason coaches poll announced Wednesday.
The XULA men — 20-6 last season, champion of an NAIA unaffiliated group tournament and a quarterfinalist at NAIA nationals — will open their spring-semester schedule at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3 against third-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan in the ITA NAIA National Indoor Championships at Overland Park, Kan. XULA’s women also will compete there but will begin their spring schedule Saturday at Northwestern State.
The Gold Rush are:
• In the top 25 for the 124th consecutive time — the longest active streak in NAIA men’s tennis.
• In the top 10 for the 94th time in the last 97 polls.
• In the preseason top five for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
• In the preseason top 10 for the 12th consecutive season.
