NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State women’s basketball icon Vivian Greene’s legacy continues to grow over 40 years after she last donned a green and gold jersey.  Greene has been named to the Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame 2022 induction class; the organization announced Tuesday.

After graduating from Smithfield high School, Greene played her first season at Norfolk State in 1974, becoming the most prolific scorer in program history. She holds the school record for career points (2,386) and scoring average (25.1 points per game), earning All-CIAA honors in each of her four years at NSU.

Greene was selected to the 1977 and ’78 National Association of Women’s Sports All-American teams, leading the Spartans to CIAA championships in 1975 and ’77. Her most memorable performance may have come as a junior against Shaw University, when she made 23 field goals en route to a 50-point game.

The induction will take place at the organization’s banquet event on Sunday, Nov. 20 at Norfolk Scope Arena. Individual tickets are $65, with eight-person tables available for reservation at $400. Purchases can be made by calling 757-823-4299 or emailing heather.mitchell@norfolk.gov.
