BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Texas Southern’s Ashley Arnes, Prairie View A&M’s Andrea Nugent, and Alabama State’s Sheila Sanchez for SWAC Soccer Weekly Honors for their outstanding performances during conference play this past week.
Offensive Player of the Week
Arnes delivered a spectacular performance this past week during Texas Southern’s 3-2 road win over Southern on Friday. She contributed two goals during the contest as she helped lead the Lady Tigers to their first conference win of the season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Nugent scored her second goal of the season during Prairie View A&M’s 2-1 win over Jackson State this past week. She also contributed heavily on defense helping lead the Lady Panthers to their third shut-out win of the season. Prairie View A&M held Southern scoreless on Sunday defeating the Lady Jaguars by a score of 1-0.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Alabama State’s Sanchez recorded 11 saves in a pair of road conference wins this past week, while allowing just a pair of goals. She recorded five saves against Alcorn State, and another six against Mississippi Valley State to help move the Lady Hornets’ unbeaten streak in conference play to nine. For the season, Sanchez has recorded 68 saves.
