Virginia Union University’s Raemaad Wright scored 21 points and grabbed 20 rebounds as the Panthers ran their home winning streak to 28 straight games as VUU downed Fairmont State University 88-83 in overtime on Friday, December 30, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
VUU’s Robert Osborne led the Panthers with 25 points while teammate Keleaf Tate added 15 points in the win.
Virginia Union’s Khalil Diggins Williams scored 11 points as the Panthers raised their record to 11-2 on the year.
“I thought we came out a little nervous at the beginning of the game but after we settled down, we did a great job finding Fairmont State shooters and we defended them the rest of the game very well,” said VUU Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jay Butler. “Raemaad and Robbie did a great job on the boards. I thought they did a great job establishing themselves in the paint especially in the second half. I was very proud of Keleaf Tate today. We asked him to play some point guard and he did a great job taking care of the basketball and he hit some big shots for us in the second half.”
Virginia Union will now travel to Salisbury, N.C., to face Catawba College at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3.
