Virginia Union University’s Jada Byers rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown, but Kutztown University defeated the Panthers 38-14 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Football Playoffs on Saturday, November 18, in Kutztown, Pa.

VUU’s Christian Reid completed 16 of 26 passes for 123 yards in the game.

“It was a tough game,” said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker.  “We started slow, and you just can’t do that against a team like Kutztown.  But I love these guys, and we had a great season.”

VUU ended the season by being the CIAA Champions for the first time since 2001.

Byers ended 2023 with 1,186 rushing yards.

The Panthers also ended the season with a 10-2 record, marking the first time a VUU football team has won 10 games since 1990.
