Virginia Union University’s softball team went 2-0 on the first day of the 2022 CIAA Softball Round-Up on Friday, March 25, in Raleigh, N.C.

The Panthers defeated Livingstone College 5-0 and then shut-out Saint Augustine’s University 20-0 in the second game.

In the opener, VUU’s Ericka Tiscareno struck out eight and allowed only one hit in five innings of work.  Virginia Union’s Summer Moroch struck out four and allowed just one hit in two innings of relief.

VUU’s Darnae Jones became the first Lady Panther to steal home this season when she stole home in the fourth inning.

In the nightcap, Virginia Union’s Dominique Mulero struck out nine in five innings of work.  The Panthers’ big blow came when Nevaeh Johnson slugged a two-run homer in the third inning.

The 20-run explosion marked the first time a VUU softball team scored 20 or more runs since the Lady Panthers downed Lincoln University of Pennsylvania 22-0 on March 30, 2019.

Virginia Union will now face Winston-Salem State University and Johnson C. Smith University on the second day of the Round-Up.  The Lady Panthers face WSSU at 10:00 a.m. and then will play JCSU at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, in Raleigh, N.C.
