Week 4: SIAC Volleyball Players of the Week

ATLANTA, Ga. (September 27, 2022) – Kiera Washington (Miles) was named Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Volleyball Offensive Player of the Weekwhile Chaiza Jones (Miles) earned Defensive Player of the Week, released by the league office on Tuesday.

Anya Creecy (Miles) was also tabbed Setter of the Week alongside Maliyah Spencer (Allen) who earned Newcomer of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kiera Washington, Miles
Outside Hitter | Junior | Broussard, LA

Washington hit .260 with 92 kills, 15 aces and 101 digs in seven matches as Miles went 6-1 overall, 4-1 at the SIAC Crossover. She had double-digit kills in five matches, including a career-high 19 kills in back-to-back games against Allen and Benedict. She had double-digit digs in six straight matches, including a career-high 24 against Benedict.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Chaiza Jones, Miles
Libero | Freshman | Huntsville, AL

Jones had 139 digs (5.5 per set) over seven matches as Miles went 6-1 for the week. She has at least 10 digs in every match this season and has four matches with at least 20. She set her career-high with 40 in a four-set win over Benedict. She also added 20 assists, three kills and five aces this week.

SETTER OF THE WEEK – Anya Creecy, Miles
Setter | Freshman | LaPlace, LA

Creecy had played in just four matches prior to this week but was integral in Miles going 6-1 this week. She had 241 assists (8.9 per set), 60 digs (2.2 per set), 14 kills and four aces. She had four double-doubles and eclipsed 40 assists in three matches, including a career-high 44 in a four-set win over Benedict.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK – Maliyah Spencer, Allen
Outside Hitter | Freshman | Surprise, Arizona

Freshman outside hitter Maliyah Spencer totaled 58 kills on the week with 26 digs and six blocks. The Arizona native led the Yellow Jackets to two wins on the week as she totaled a season high of 16 kills in the win over Central State as well as a game-high of 14 digs and 14 kills in the win over Tuskegee.
