NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana was No. 6 in the NAIA women’s tennis preseason coaches poll announced Wednesday.
The Gold Nuggets — 14-15 last season, second in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament and a quarterfinalist at NAIA nationals — will open their spring-semester schedule this weekend with 1 p.m. dual matches on the road against NCAA Division I opponents: Saturday in Natchitoches, La., at Northwestern State and Sunday in Mobile, Ala., against South Alabama.
The Gold Nuggets are:
• In the top 25 for the 86th consecutive time.
• In the preseason top 10 for the sixth consecutive season.
• In the preseason top 25 for the 11th consecutive season and the 17th time in their last 18 seasons.
