NEW ORLEANS — For the second time in 12 days, the men of NAIA power Xavier University of Louisiana have defeated Nicholls of NCAA Division I.
This time it was 4-1 on a cool and breezy — 18 mph winds from the north — Thursday afternoon at XULA Tennis Center. XULA — 7-8 and ranked 11th in the NAIA — has won its last six meetings with Nicholls.
XULA won the doubles point and 3-of-4 in singles. Freshman Jered Wilson clinched for the second time this season when he defeated Prasanna Pravin Bagade 6-3, 6-4 on court six.
Santiago Perez and Shaikh Abdullah won in doubles and singles. Perez and his brother, Sebastian Perez, clinched in doubles with their 6-2 victory against Piyush Surendra Salekar and Ricardo de Sales Chaves Machado.
Nicholls is 4-7.
XULA, winner at home of its last 16 dual matches and 37 of its last 40, will play host to Rust at noon Saturday.
